Freda Pagani

An architect by training and an environmentalist at heart, Freda is fascinated by pattern in nature and society and her art explores the relationship between the two. Her love of textiles, handwork, style and colour and her academic exploration of pattern in the natural and artificial world have resulted in small works using found objects, image transfer, embroidered giclee collage, and often incorporating antique hand worked textiles. She is currently exploring encaustic and is increasingly fascinated by the idea of expressing the passage of time in two dimensional work. Freda finds herself drawn to celebrating the care and beauty of women’s traditional skills and abilities while exploring the contrast between natural design, which has evolved over eons, and artificial design by humans.
